With Trump’s inauguration, many people, mostly those with conservative views, felt relieved. They hoped that everything would be over after Biden’s four years of left-leaning policies. They were hoping for the restoration of freedom and common sense.
The inauguration took place on Monday, January 20, 2025. Many people were shocked that Trump did not swear his oath on the Bible during his second inauguration ceremony. He never explained the reason, but it is not a constitutional requirement, it’s more of a tradition, a way to show people your beliefs.

On the same day as the inauguration, Trump signed Executive Order 14161, Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats. An act that tightened the conditions for visas into the U.S. and enhanced vetting and screening before entry to protect U.S. citizens from aliens who intend to commit terrorist attacks, threaten our national security, espouse hateful ideology, or otherwise exploit the immigration laws for malevolent purposes.
After the ‘assassination’ of Charlie Kirk President Donald Trump issued a National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM-7) called “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence,” essentially adding them to an ever-growing list of what he calls the “enemy within. On its face, NSPM-7 is chilling to read: If anyone needed proof that “terrorism” and “political violence” are slippery and fraught categories subject to political, ideological, and racial manipulation and bias—well, this is it.
Following that, The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced the publication of the Notice of Final Rule titled “Collection of Biometric Data from Aliens Upon Entry to and Departure from the United States.” This milestone regulation advances DHS’s efforts to implement a comprehensive biometric entry/exit program, enhancing national security and streamlining identity verification processes for foreign visitors traveling to and from the United States.
The final rule, effective Dec. 26, 2025, amends existing DHS regulations to authorize U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an operational component within DHS, to collect facial biometrics from all noncitizens upon entry and exit at airports, land ports, seaports, and other authorized points of departure. This removes prior exemptions including diplomats and most Canadian visitors. It also removes limitations on pilot programs and expands biometric collection to new transportation modalities, including sea exit, private aircraft, vehicle entry/exit, and pedestrian exit. Public comments related to this rule may be submitted on or before Nov. 26, 2025.
But his administration is going even further. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Department of Homeland Security is proposing a new regulation for travellers using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) under the Visa Waiver Program, which allows citizens of 42 countries – including the United Kingdom, Germany, Qatar, Greece, Malta, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Israel and South Korea – to travel to the US for tourism or business for up to 90 days.
This regulation adds social media as a mandatory data element for ESTA applications. Applicants will be required to provide their social media information from the past five years.
In addition, applicants must submit High Value Data Elements, which are additional to the information already collected in the ESTA application. The high value data fields include:
- Telephone numbers used in the last five years;
- Email addresses used in the last ten years;
- IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos;
- Family member names (parents, spouse, siblings, children);
- Family number telephone numbers used in the last five years;
- Family member dates of birth;
- Family member places of birth;
- Family member residencies;
- Biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris;
- Business telephone numbers used in the last five years;
- Business email addresses used in the last ten years.

Canadian citizens are not on the list yet.
If this is approved, it will be the most draconian travel restriction in the Western world. It goes deeply into people’s privacy and will lead to increased state control. Other countries may soon follow suit as a result.

Digital ID is no longer a conspiracy, but resistance is minimal, if any. Unfortunately, it seems the problem-reaction-solution pattern still works well. In reality, it all started in 2001 with the ‘terrorist attack’ on the World Trade Center in New York. I wonder what the wake-up call should be.
