Council approved new 5G tower

Last week, the Council of the Incorporation of City of Salmon Arm has approved the use of land for a new Telecommunications Tower and associated facilities {i.e. fencing, equipment shelter and generator} in Salmon Arm.

Construction of a 30-metre tall, self-supporting tower on privately owned property at 1670 10 Avenue SE, Salmon Arm was proposed by Rogers Communications Inc., which is owned primarily by the FIL LTD, Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal.

Gary Buxton, Director of planning and Community Services prepared Request for decision and the request was approved by Chief Administrative Officer Erin Jackson.

“Cypress Land Services (CLS), on behalf of Rogers Telecommunications (the proponent), has proposed the installation of a 30 metre (m) cellular tower and associated facilities (i.e. fencing, equipment shelter and generator) on the southern portion of the parcel at 1710 and 1670 10 Avenue S.W. The tower is located at 1710 10 Avenue S.W. and the access road to the tower crosses 1670 10 Avenue S.W. (Attachment 1). The subject parcel is 0.4 hectares / 1 acre in size and is designated Commercial Highway Service / Tourist in the Official Community Plan (OCP) and is split-zoned R-1 Single Family Residential Zone (northern portion) and C-3 Service Commercial Zone (southern portion where the tower will be located). The parcel is used for commercial and storage purposes. The site is surrounding by existing C-3 zoning and land uses.

CLS has submitted a consultation and information package to the City (Attachment 1). In accordance with the Federal Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada’s (ISED, formerly Industry Canada) Public Consultation Process (CPC-2-0-03) and City Communication System Location and Consultation Policy 3.18, the proponent is required to consult with the City Page 42 of 258 prior to installation of the tower, which did occur. CLS is seeking concurrence from the City in the form of a resolution from Council.”

The tower will carry 6 initial antennas for 4G and 5G technology.

Did the council or anyone from administration conduct any research before approval? What about environmental and health hazard? Nothing, just blindly follow the agenda…
