Austria- Mandatory vaccination
Austria will be the first country in European Union with a Covid19 vaccine mandate. The Parliament has made vaccination compulsory after 137 MPs voted for vaccination and 33 opposed. The bill must be debated and approved in the upper house.
The new mandate will become into effect on February 1st, 2022, for every Austrian adult except pregnant woman, people with medical reasons, or people who had positive Covid19 test within 180 days. The residents who refuse the mandate will be penalized based on income up to 3600 euros {5086 CAD}.
By the official government statistic, there is over 72% of almost 9 million citizens fully vaccinated The Bill will give the officials the power to keep tracking the vaccination status of every citizen. The law remains in place until 2024.
Since the Austrian government brought the compulsory vaccination, back into November 2021, demonstrations have continued every weekend since then. Thousands of people in the streets are demanding the law to be scrapped. For the upcoming weekend organizers planning mass protests all around the country, especially in Vienna.
