Story about Bob
I recently met Bob at local Shoppers Drug Mart. Bob is in his early forties. He is a teacher at one of the local school, where he teaches social studies. Bob does not have any children or a wife. He believes that the planet is overpopulated, so he chose not to have a family. However, he has two cats.
Bob was complaining to me that he had to wait in line at the pharmacy for his COVID and flu shots. He was very mad. He couldn’t understand how the government could not provide better service for vaccine distribution. On the other hand, he was happy that the vaccines were free. He is unfamiliar with vaccine side effects, even though he suffered a stroke last year and experienced issues with blood clots. His doctors stated that the cause was not specified.
He complained about how the government handled the COVID pandemic. He said that if restrictions had been more radical and lasted longer, many more lives could have been saved.

Bob always uses self-checkout in the store and pays with his phone after downloading the appropriate application. “It so comfortable, convenient, and safe”, he says. He also said he never liked polite conversations with cashiers or their dirty hands.
He also loves online shopping from his one-bedroom apartment. However, he doesn’t like paying high rent. He believes that the government should provide some financial support, especially for government employees.
He also told me that he was happy the winter break is over and that he was going back to school. He likes his job. He likes to follow the curriculum too, which is currently very left. Bob believes that a strong social state and proper education provided by the government are very important.
Bob also supports LGBTQ+ ideology because he believes that personal expression and freedom are very important for self-determination.
Bob also just bought a small electric car. He stated that we must fight global warning and climate change at any cost. When I asked him what the ecological footprint is for building an electric car, including all its batteries, he couldn’t answer.
He mentioned that he is very pleased with Canada’s immigration policies and believes we should welcome more people from developing countries and support them here. “Canada is strong, and we should bring them here and help them integrate into our society,” he says.
He also expressed frustration about high taxes and the significant portion of his income that is deducted each month.
Bob doesn’t believe in God, and he does not support any religion either. He believes in a strong social state based on Marxist philosophy and equality.
Bob does not know he is a problem.
