More than fifty concerned people met for a freedom rally and convoy on Saturday, November 22 in Salmon Arm. They joined a nationwide convoy protesting issues ranging from food insecurity to stronger land and property rights.

The rally began with a convoy of 30 cars and semi-trucks that started at 30 Street SE and rolled out onto the TCH, driving through the town to Uptown Askew before returning to the Centenoka Park Mall to join the crowd already gathering along the highway.
Focus was protecting Canadian farmers, defending land rights, and demanding transparency and accountability from government agencies and also about addressing the growing concern that government bodies are exercising powers far beyond what Canadians consider fair, reasonable, or justified.
The movement was sparked following the culls at a B.C. ostrich farm, with members calling for stronger property rights and evidence-based disease protocols.
Protestors say the recent ostrich cull in B.C., which was ordered after federal officials detected H5N1 in the flock, has become a catalyst for broader concerns about what they call CFIA and government overreach.
“Ostriches were culled based on what evidence? Has anyone already isolated the H5N1 virus? Or it’s all about the food control and land grab?” – one protestor complained.
Almost seven million birds have been culled at B.C. farms since the spring of 2022.
The atmosphere at the protest remained peaceful, with participants holding banners and flags, chanting supportive messages, and engaging with passersby about the importance of maintaining an independent farm sector in British Columbia. Organizers described the turnout as a sign that the public is increasingly aware that issues affecting farmers ultimately affect everyone.
