Letter to Mayor and City council

Dear Mayor Harrison and Salmon Arm city council,

I have written my thoughts below, but I urge you to watch this presentation to the European Parliament for a more thorough exposition of the same ideas.

Language is important. The proposed strategy entitled “Embracing and Inclusion” sounds kind and compassionate, but this is in fact insidious religious language of a cult that does not care about the well-being of anyone who disagrees with them. They claim to stand for Diversity, as long ad there is no diversity of thought. The religion has many names, but it all stems from Marxism. One such instantiation is called “Critical Race Theory”, which is Marxism that substitutes race for class. The rules are they same: every member of a given race {class} is categorized as either oppressor or oppressed. The oppressed have a moral obligation, they say, to fight against the oppressor.

Reasonable, no? The problem is that the oppression is not real.

Slavery was oppression.

Red- lining was oppression.

Today we have non of that. We are all equal under the law, and Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud of the society he fundamentally changed.

Any instances al alleged racism ought to be handled on a case- by- case, basis with due seriousness. Everyone deserves to live in a society where they are judged be their behaviour, not by their ethnicity {or sec, etc.}.

But the umbrella of Diversity, Equity, and inclusion {DEI} does not offer such a world. Advocates of DEI want to treat everyone as an indistinct mass of humans of different races and genders in their pernicious cult of intersectionality. In this line of thinking, straight, able- boded white males are the ultimate evil. No matter the nature of the man, he is to be judged as an oppressor for the fact of his unchangeable existence. There is also no arguing with such ideologues as they resort to name- calling: “you are racist” {or transphobe, or misogynist, etc.} But one we realize this trick, we can lift the veil and see the lack of substance in their claims. Reasonable humans are not racist, and don’t seek to hold anyone down. We want harmony, community, and good life just like everyone else.

However, many cities are failing since espousing the views of this Western flavour of Marxism. Look no further than the falloff the once- great cities of Vancouver and San Francisco to see the downstream effects of such ideologies. These cities are eye- opening examples of false “compassion” that only leads to more problems. We should learn from their mistakes, keep it simple, and focus on what works: doing productive work, encouraging families, teaching children basic values and facts; stigmatized drug use; detaining criminals; and honesty in all things. Notice the omission of race in all these areas. It doesn’t matter who it is; these basic tenets are universally applicable.

Why do I take the time to write this? Because Salmon Arm is my home, and I don’t want it to fall due to the naivete of its decision- makers. Equity sounds nice, fair, and compassionate. But is none of these things.

Purveyors of Equity are very clear that they do not mean equality in the sense of equal opportunity. They want equality of outcome where everyone ends up in the same place. No matter what. This is profoundly anti-merit, and is simple impossible in a functioning society. The Soviets tried it. The food came primarily from the bourgeois class of farmers, and the farmers were punished for their success. How dare they have more than others? With the successful food producers gone, farming was socialized, but the best farming practise were now gone. Then nobody had the food. Mao did the same in China. Millions were imprisoned and millions more starved in both cases. When one punish success, everybody loses. That is the inevitable outcome of the doctrine of Equity {even if that seems ridiculous now}.

That is not to say there should by no compassion for the downtrodden. We must offer support in various forms for anyone who is struggling { rather than programs that help only people who look or identify a certain way}. But we cannot force any individuals to be made equal without tearing down the successful. We can only offer opportunities for improvement for those who need it while simultaneously rewarding success to maintain proper system of incentives.

All I ask is that we be careful with our use of language, see what lies beneath seemingly innocent terms, and say exactly what we mean rather than what sounds nice.

Councillors reacted on council meeting :

“It’s not a surprise for me that Salmon Arm isn’t immune to imported cultural wars from the far right that seek to create political conflict and division in order to divide us,” said Coun. Tim Lavery in regard to the letter submission.

“In my view this letter is just such an endeavour, and I personally completely repudiate both the points that were made in this letter as well as the non-stated underlying implications behind it.”

Lavery said he’s proud to be a “DEI hire.”

“Yes, Mr. Letter writer, I’m a democratically and duly elected incumbent, and I will always stand up for and protect inclusionary approaches for all our Salmon Arm residents,” he said.

Coun. Sylvia Lindgren said the letter contained falsehoods and misrepresentations.

“There’s a multitude of falsehoods and representation misrepresentations in this letter, which I wish we had time to deconstruct one line at a time,” she said. “And I would love to do that for anybody who calls me and asks for more information on this, I’d be happy to break it down for them.”

Coun. Louise Wallace Richmond echoed Lavery’s sentiment, adding letters like this inspire her to work harder.

“These letters do make their way to our desks and our emails more often than I’d like to see,” she said. “I will tell you this, to anyone who’s listening, letters like these make me work harder, make me do better and make me support more.

“So I hope people who consider this as a tactic that’s effective recognize the irony in that, and I’m grateful to my council for the work we have done as a group supporting vulnerable people of all kinds.”

The reaction of councillors did not surprise at all. With representatives like that at all levels of government, we are approaching a socialistic utopia, but the next step, if nothing changes, will be a communist nightmare.
