“Freedom convoy 2022”

Canadian truckers with supporters rolling from Vancouver to Ottawa can create a Guinness world record as the largest trucks convoy ever made. More important for Canadians, this “ Freedom convoy 2022” can be one of the biggest protests against the Canadian government in history and can cause Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation.

“ Convoy for Freedom 2022” has started Sunday, January 23th in Vancouver as a reaction to the Liberals’ government which on January 15th brought the vaccine mandate for all Canadian truckers crossing the border into Canada. Canadian truckers are not allowed to cross the border if they are unable to show proof of vaccination or a medical exemption. If there are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated they must get a PCR test outside Canada within 72 hours of planned entry, get tested after arrival, and then do a self-test on day 8th and mandatory 14 days quarantine.

The convoy is expected to arrive in Ottawa on January 29th where a general protest will be held. Organizers are expecting a couple of thousand trucks and a couple of hundred thousand supporters will arrive in the capital city. Truckers already sent the message to the Canadian government and the people of Canada:” We are fighting against mandates for all people not just truckers.”

For only 11 days 27, 574 people already donated 4, 661,960 CAD in an online donation platform to support the convoy and numbers are still going up. Thousands of people are supporting the convoy in person alongside Highway 1 and millions from homes.

The Canadian Trucking Alliance {CTA} released the statement;” CTA does not support and strongly disapproves of any protest on public roadways, highways, and bridges. CTA believes such actions- especially those that interfere with public safety- are not disagreements with government policies should be expressed. Members of the trucking industry who want to publicly express displeasure over government policies can choose to hold an organized, lawful event on Parliament Hill or contact their local MP. What is not acceptable is disrupting the motoring public on highways and commerce at the border.”

CTA estimates that a new vaccine request could affect almost 16 000 truckers. The trucking industry is very important for the Canadian economy because approximately 70 percent of all goods traded between Canada and the U.S. are transported via trucks.

Ottawa already sent a message to truckers and supporters:” The federal government will not back down on its vaccination rule for cross-border truckers despite entrenched opposition from some drivers and groups claiming to represent their interest.”
