The board of directors of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District {CSRD} has approved the use of land for a Telecommunications Tower, (TELUS File BC109160) in Sorrento. The full Board of Directors were present for the corporate vote.

Construction of a 58 metre tall, self-supporting tower on a large privately-owned lot located at 1030 Dilworth Road, Sorrento was proposed by Telus Corporation, which is owned primarily by the Royal Bank of Canada. Jan Thingsted, a level III Planner, reported:
THAT: the Board provided a land use concurrence that confirms:
-
- The CSRD is satisfied with TELUS’ consultation process, as outlined in the CSRD Telecommunication Facilities Siting and Consultation Policy (P-22);
- That the proposed tower is a permitted use;
- The proposed design and location is acceptable;
- That the CSRD has been consulted and concurs with the tower location.

- THAT: the Board directed staff to forward the personal and public health related concerns received in response to the proposed cellular service tower in Electoral Area G to the Government of Canada departments responsible for the protection of public health and the regulation of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields, in particular Health Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
The board of directors and staff of the CSRD absolutely ignored dozens of complaints, phone calls, letters, protests and even a petition from concerned residents. On February 16, approximately 20 people worried about the health and environmental impact of the proposed tower showed up at the CSRD board of directors meeting to oppose the proposed project.

On March 2, residents delivered an information package containing evidence about the health and environmental hazards of the proposed 5G tower. The package also contained a petition signed by the more than 350 people.

Additional data on the health risks and environmental hazards of 5G towers and wireless technology was described in a letter from James G. Flynn. He spent 22 years of his military career in the Electronic Warfare {EW} and Signals Intelligence {SIGINT} unit, including two years at the National Defense Headquarters Ottawa {NDHQ} at the Directorate of Electronic Warfare {DEW}. Despite of all of the provided information and opposition from residents, bureaucrats went ahead and gave the project the green light. They proved yet again that they do not work for the people but for the benefit of corporations and their agendas. Their lack of vision and short sightedness may provide short term benefits but in the long run these decisions will harm even themselves.
