BC Wildfires
Last year, we witnessed the worst wildfire season in the Shuswap. Not because of dry weather, but because of mismanagement and “over bureaucracy”. On top of that, on August 17, 2023, the BC Wildfire Service started an aerial ignition, as a result of which, 6.424 acres were intentionally burned, right behind Lee Creek and Scotch Creek, despite a forecast of strong winds; residents reported that they were not informed of this scheduled backburn. Thanks to the bravery of those who defied orders to evacuate, the horrific story about what happened has been preserved.

Close to 200 houses, many businesses, and 45,000 hectares of beautiful forests were burned to ash in the North Shuswap; all a result of incompetence at the least, and possible political motivations at the worst. What was pristine nature before has now been transformed to moon land. The only reason the whole area did not burn to cinders is because of the bravery of and the sweat expelled by locals.

CSRD bureaucrats, with the cooperation of the BC Wildfire Service and the RCMP, created obstacles and literal roadblocks for those who refused to evacuate, and who stayed to fight the fire, and for those who returned, or attempted to return, to put out spot fires. Road blocks, lockdowns, and shutting down hydrants and water stations were some of the tools used to keep people from protecting their own properties, and the properties of their neighbours.

Of course, as a reward for using brutal, unlawful tactics against Shuswap residents, bureaucrats received payment for overtime hours and bonuses.

Sadly, this exact same thing occurred in the Slocan valley this year (2024). Unprecedented incompetence and lock downs also occurred right after “controlled” back burn fires. People were forced to leave their homes, and those who stayed were given little, if any, assistance.

On August 4, 2024, local men and women at the public meeting in Winlaw, West Kootenay were concerned about their friends and neighbours who stayed behind in the evacuation order area, and wanted to arrange to get a food and supplies to them. The Director of the Emergency operation center of the Regional District of Central Kootenay, Dan Sequin, said there was no mechanism for this. “ It would be like evacuation order doesn’t matter. If they are running out of supplies, my invitation to them is to come out of the evacuation order area.” “The purpose is not starve them,” he added. “That is not what we or BCWS wants to do.”

Constable Kennedy stated the police’s power to assist with evacuation orders comes from the Emergency Disaster and Management Act, just as it did under the old Emergency Program Act. Police also enforce the BC Wildfire Act, which lists several offences related to wildfire emergencies, such as failing to comply with an order to leave a specified area. He adds that it is also an offence under the Criminal Code to obstruct a peace officer in the execution of their duty, or any person lawfully acting in aid of such an officer. Once people leave their residences, they are not allowed back unless they get a temporary access permit from the RDCK, which allows residents to return to their properties for about an hour at a time to retrieve medication or tend to animals, Kennedy said. Roads within the order area are for authorized vehicle use only, and anyone travelling in the zone will be stopped and escorted out if they aren’t authorized to be there. The RDCK’s August 3 information bulletin says there have been reports from the BC Wildfire Service that some residents who remained in the Slocan Lake complex evacuation order area were interfering with firefighting operations by entering active work zones where heavy equipment and crews were building guard. The bulletin says residents must stay on their own property and not travel to other properties or locations within the evacuation order area.

And now, the puzzle pieces are starting to show a clear picture of what actually transpired. What seems like incompetence, mismanagement and over bureaucracy before, appears to be an evil plan, revealing a pattern now, from one summer to the next; keep the “wildfires” burning and if not enough is being destroyed, use “controlled” aerial ignition to burn down the homes of independent, free people in the valleys, destroy their farms, businesses, livelihoods and force them to leave and go somewhere else. Offer them help only under the condition that they obey the government orders. For those outside of the area being burned, and who are not privy to what is actually happening in the current summer’s burning areas, bureaucrats act like they are saviours, with this story being perpetuated by the mass manipulation media.
15 minute cities, which will be like a digital prisons, are being developed by bureaucrats for people who have no idea of what’s truly going on. Those areas which have been intentionally burned will eventually become “protected areas”; in other words, playgrounds and potential areas for resource pillaging for the rich.
The worst part is, some of the same government lackeys who run/ran pandemics are also running the so-called wildfires. These people are dangerous, because they will push the agenda of control no matter what, just to keep their warm seats/large paychecks. It is important to know that power of any order is measured by the level of obedience to it.
Can we change the course of things? Of course, but we all need to understand what we are facing, and that we have a moral responsibility to do everything in our power to alter the course we are on, regardless of the odds. Not just for ourselves, but for our children and for future generations.
