World Health Assembly adopted Pandemic Treaty
May 20, 2025 Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) formally adopted by consensus the world’s first Pandemic agreement. The landmark decision by the 78th World Health Assembly culminates more than three years intended to improve preparedness for future pandemics.
“The agreement is a victory for public health, science and multilateral action. It will ensure we, collectively, can better protect the world from future pandemic threats. It is also a recognition by the international community that our citizens, societies and economies must not be left vulnerable to again suffer losses like those endured during COVID-19.”” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The pact aims to ensure that drugs, therapeutics and vaccines are globally accessible when the next pandemic hits.

One hundred and twenty-four countries voted in favour, Canada includes, no countries voted against, while 11 countries, including Poland, Israel, Italy, Russia, Slovakia and Iran, abstained.
However, U.S. negotiators left discussions about the accord after President Donald Trump began a 12-month process of withdrawing the U.S. — by far the WHO’s largest financial backer. The U.S., which put billions of dollars into vaccine development during the COVID pandemic, would not be bound by the pact. And WHO member states would not face penalties if they failed to implement it.
Just remind you, that The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation hosted Event 201: a high-level simulation exercise for pandemic preparedness and response, in New York, USA. The exercise illustrated areas where public/private partnerships will be necessary during the response to a severe pandemic in order to diminish large-scale economic and societal consequences.
Event 201 simulates an outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic. The pathogen and the disease it causes are modeled largely on SARS, but it is more transmissible in the community setting by people with mild symptoms.

In 2015, Bill Gates says, that the world needs to prepare for the next major health crisis.
“Nato plays war games to check that people are well-trained and prepared. Now we need germ games,” he said.
He also called for a reserve “medical corps” similar to the reserve armies that civilians can join.

So, a treaty has been adopted, there are planning something new? Perhaps a new pandemic what Bill Gates predicted in interview 28. 6. 2020? Time will tell, but hopefully people will be better prepared as well.
