Trudeau and Emergencies act
On February 14th, the Liberal government invoked the Emergency act for the first time in Canadian history. The Emergencies Act became law in 1988 as a federal law that replaced the War measures act and can be used by the federal government in the event of a national emergency. It is an Act to authorize the taking of special temporary measures to ensure safety and security during national emergencies and to amend other Acts in consequence thereof.
National emergency
3 For the purposes of this Act, a national emergency is an urgent and critical situation of a temporary nature that
(a) seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it, or
(b) seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada
and that cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.

Since the “Freedom convoy 2022 “started on January 23th, Justin Trudeau has ignored all requests from leaders of this movement for open dialog and discussion. Instead, he called Canadians supporting this movement as, quote:” The small fringe minority of people, who are on the way to Ottawa, who are holding unacceptable views and their expressing, do not represent view of Canadians,” quote end.
Prime minister Trudeau didn’t see hundreds of heavy-duty trucks on the way to Ottawa, he ignored thousands of people supporting “Freedom convoy 2022” alongside Canadian highways and roads. He did not mention millions of dollars that this “small fringe minority” collected for just a couple of days, despite all obstacles.
After the convoy arrived in Ottawa, on January 29th he didn’t talk to the people, he escaped from his residence, Rideau cottage in New Edinburg. On January 31th, he announced he was tested positive for Covid 19. He said:” I’m feeling fine- and I’ll continue to work remotely this week while following public health guidelines.” During the announcement, Justin Trudeau also urged everyone to get vaccinated. He did not mention, how it was possible that he got a positive result for Covid 19, after he was fully vaccinated against it, including booster shoot.
Meanwhile, Canadians enjoyed the biggest hope and euphoria for the last two years. Truckers unified people Canada-wide. People were laughing, hugging each other, dancing and enjoying gathering in Canadian streets.
Over 3 weeks leaders of “Freedom convoy 2022” demanded to talk to Trudeau and other government officials, with no response. Instead, on Valentine’s day, he brought Emergencies act as a tool against them and his government started to execute that order right after. Deputy minister and minister of finance Chrystia Freeland said that under Emergencies Act, crowdfunding platforms and the payment service providers they use must register with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), the national financial intelligence agency. They must also report large and suspicious transactions to FINTRAC.
On February 17th, Canadian financial institutions have started to freeze the accounts of people, linked to protests in Ottawa. RCMP and other law enforcement agencies have been gathering intelligence on convoy protesters and their supporters and sharing that information with financial institutions to restrict access to cash and cryptocurrency, she said.
Friday, February 18th and the following weekend, Police forces under the Emergencies Act started the repression against protestors in Ottawa city center. For the first time violence became part of protests, but violence came from over motivated Police officers and other members of forces, with no identification.

By The Emergencies Act, section 58 {1}, consideration of Declaration of Emergency shall be laid before each House of Parliament within seven sitting days after the declaration is issued. That occurred on Monday, February 21st, when the Emergencies Act passes House of Commons with NDP support by vote 185 to 151. During the debate, Trudeau was asked if the deployment of act is still necessary, after the police have cleared the area in front of Parliament Hill, he responded, that his government would not keep the enhanced powers provided for under the act in place one single day longer than it is necessary. He said;” Even though things seem to be resolving very well in Ottawa, this state of emergency is not over,”
Tuesday, February 22nd, the Senate started consideration of Emergencies Act approval. After hours of arguments and discussion, it was more than obvious, that Senate is not unified and the approval of Emergencies Act can fall. The senators did not vote on Tuesday.
Wednesday, Trudeaus’ cabinet revoked Emergencies Act, after nine days of execution. Justin Trudeau said;” “Today, after careful consideration, we’re ready to confirm that the situation is no longer an emergency. Therefore, the federal government will be ending the use of the Emergencies Act,”
It’s more than clear, Justin Trudeau revoked Emergencies Act, because he saw he did not have enough support from the Senate, so he did not give a chance to Senate to vote. If Senate would have been voted “no” to the approval of Act, this would be a big political loss for Trudeau and also, it would create an independent investigation, if Emergencies Act was invoked legally or not with following consequences.
Justin Trudeau continued: “Let’s be very clear: The threat continues. We do see, whether it’s social media activity or people who continue to be focused on protesting, and perhaps illegally protesting, that we need to be monitoring,” By that, Prime minister declared, people who exercise their rights guaranteed by Canadian Charters of Rights and Freedom {1982} and by Bill of Rights{1960} are now monitored by government institutions. No need to mention, the term “illegal protest” is unknown by Canadian law.
In the Preamble of Emergencies Act is also declared: AND WHEREAS the Governor in Council, in taking such special temporary measures, would be subject to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canadian Bill of Rights and must have regard to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, particularly with respect to those fundamental rights that are not to be limited or abridged even in a national emergency;

The ignorance of non-respecting Canadian laws and arrogance of non-listening to Canadian people by Prime minister Trudeau is more than obvious. He has spoken about freedom, democracy and liberty but he has been acting differently. As one wisdom says: “ Don’t judge people by their words, but by theirs work.”
