Saturday’s rally for Freedom
Rally for freedom took a place in Salmon Arm today January 22nd on Highway 1, close by Centenoka mall. The rally was a part of the worldwide Rally for Freedom and was organized by local concerned residents.
Close to 150 people showed up in person at this rally to support freedom of speech, mobility, and rights which is all guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom as a part of the Constitution of Canada. The Constitution of Canada is the fundamental law, which can not be superseded by any other law.
On top of that, in British Columbia human rights are also protected by BC Human Rights Code {RSBC1996} CHAPTER 210, when the purposes of this Code are clearly defined in section 3.
Purposes
3 The purposes of this Code are as follows:
(a)to foster a society in British Columbia in which there are no impediments to full and free participation in the economic, social, political and, cultural life of British Columbia;
(b)to promote a climate of understanding and mutual respect where all are equal in dignity and rights;
(c)to prevent discrimination prohibited by this Code;
(d)to identify and eliminate persistent patterns of inequality associated with discrimination prohibited by this Code;
(e)to provide a means of redress for those persons who are discriminated against contrary to this Code.
(f) and (g)[Repealed 2002-62-2.]
In section 4 BC Human Rights Code also explicitly clarified the situation if is this Code in conflict with another law.
4 If there is a conflict between this Code and any other enactment, this Code prevails.
