Isolation sites in Canada
For the last two years, the Liberal government of Canada has established the Safe Voluntary Isolation Sites Program {SVISP}. The program was created to support the efforts of provinces and territories, and regional health authorities in the areas of infection prevention and control. SVISP provides a centralized location where identified individuals can self-isolate for the required period. The individuals are identified by local public health officials.

Since the Safe Voluntary Isolation Sites Program {SVISP} was launched 60 isolations sides were built in 47 communities in Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and the Yukon.
As of February 2022, over 15,395 people have been placed on those sides. By the Public Health Agency of Canada, access to these sites is completely voluntary and local public health officials determine eligibility and manage all aspects of the sites.
Justin Trudeaus’ cabinet spent over 100 million CAD for the purpose of SVISP since it started. The Safe Voluntary Isolation Sites Program was now extended until March 2023. For this purpose, an additional 68,4 million CAD will be provided for sites across Canada over the next year. With this additional funding, the Government of Canada is providing for this project in total over 181 million taxpayers money.
The liberal minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos said:” Protecting Canadians from COVID-19 and helping to stop its spread continues to be a priority for our government. The additional funding for the Safe Voluntary Isolation Sites Program will provide an additional year of support to communities in need across Canada. This will ensure that residents are able to safely self-isolate to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities from COVID-19.”
Why is still Canadian government spending more and more public money for Covid 19 isolation sites when most Canadian provinces lifted or will be lifting Covid 19 restrictions and mandate is a mystery. Looks like this government Covid money spending needs a serious audit.
