Canada’s decline
I will be 90 years old next month. I was born in then Czechoslovakia, shortly before WW2. My family survived the war, but unfortunately the next dictatorship, communism, that arrived in 1948 destroyed my family. We were considered to be those nasty capitalists, and my parents not wanting to be slaves of that system left (with nothing) and took me to Canada. Half the family remained, for various reasons! I did not see them again for 20 years!
I live in Vancouver, in a house that my dad bought. It was built in 1962, and cost $15,000 when new. That was roughly one year’s salary for a professional then.
The house is currently assessed at $2.5 million! I am retired, but my family live here with me. Their joint income is close to $200K per year. Believe it or not this is not enough for any sort of luxuries. Yes, the kids can have music lessons and play sports, etc., but they don’t take holiday trips abroad.
So much about house – home affordability.
I have also much to say about the way doctors have become salespeople for Big Pharma. I leave it to your imagination, you may feel the same. My daughter in law had a problem delivering her first daughter. Had she not been in the Surrey hospital, it would have been one of those typical cases of mother and baby dying in labour. Incompetent midwife! Thankfully, an OB was also on duty.
Today our GP is part of a walk in clinic. We get about 5 minutes of her attention any given time, and can discuss only one thing. Many diseases have multiple symptoms, and to treat the cause this is totally inadequate! I prefer to see my naturopath, and pay him. We can discuss more in 20 minutes. However government is making the life of alternate healing practitioners more and more difficult. Why?
I must say something about the communist approach to the so-called deadly pandemic. I did research and read RFK jr’s book “The Real Anthony Fauci” first and then chose not to take the shots. I never got the flu. I take — preventatively — supplements, and homeopathic remedies. Whatever the reason, all my family members who took the shots, even the kids got the flu. AFTER!
Trying to force an experimental shot (which it was until 2023) on every Canadian – against their will, even – sounds like China, not my Canada!

For the future, I am not sure if the current leadership of the Conservative Party is differentiated enough from the globalist WEF, whence Pierre has apparently also risen. We need local decision making rather than far off global! This was very clearly shown in the wildfires of ’23, when my cottage nearly burned down. And had it not been for local residents staying and fighting fires, against the provincial decrees, it would have!
Whether it’s health, wildfires, or anything else, decisions, and rules made far away just do not serve the real people. That sort of thing serves a small global elite on some far off Olympus!
Here’s an example. When I visited relatives in then Communist Czechoslovakia in 1964, this is what I saw: the State owned everything, down to the corner grocery. As a result people did not take care of anything. Plaster was falling off the walls of buildings in Prague, and rather than repair it, authorities put up plywood ceilings over sidewalks to protect pedestrians from injury. And it was like that in all walks of life. Pilfering from state material was common. The saying was “If you don’t steal from the State, you are robbing your family”!
The theft was much greater on the part of communist presidents and officials, of course. After the regime fell, it was the sons of past presidents who suddenly bought up the privatizing industries. During one of our visits we asked one such young capitalist where he got the money, and he very frankly said that his dad, as president, stole from the state and banked this cash in Swiss bank accounts! He was now free to use it. No prosecution!
While the Havel government returned some properties to the original owners, in our family’s case at least, it took legal wrangling over years. Havel’s father and grandfather were major real estate developers in Prague, and he no doubt, wanted his properties — like a series of townhouses on Prague’s waterfront, returned. I understand that Poland did not do this, they sold to all and sundry even foreign buyers.
Not to ramble on, I hope you understand our concern when we see China rising, in the political sense, here in our Canada!
Chinese history and culture are very different from Europe’s, on which Canadian government is based. They have a history of 5000 years of brutal dictatorships, abject poverty, and very little if any, stress on individual rights. Let them have their ways!
But let us not copy them!
